Tier 6 (modified Tier 3): we hold this at 50% of final average salary at 22 years, the conservative reading until Chapter 692 of 2025 is confirmed to reach your cohort. Service retirement begins at 22 years. This is your benefit before the age-62 Social Security reduction.

These are educational estimates, not a benefit determination, and where the rules are unclear we deliberately use the lower number so we never overstate your future income. Confirm your actual benefit with the NYC Fire Department Pension Fund, including your tier, hire date, and final average salary period. Not financial advice.

Your pension is the base. The rest is on you.

A 20-year pension replaces about half of your salary. Closing the other half is what your 457(b), a DROP if you take one, and your savings are for. Pension is the guaranteed half; your own saving is what fills the gap, the heart of the budgeting paradigm shift behind MoneyBadger. When you are ready, build your full plan in a few minutes.

Illustrative only. This is not a benefit determination. These pension estimates use a conservative, income-understating method by FDNY tier, and where the rules are unclear we use the lower number so we never overstate your future income. Tier 1/2 (legacy): about 2.5% of final average salary per year, reaching 50% at 20 years, modeled as not Social Security covered on the FDNY job and with no age-62 offset. Tier 3 Enhanced: 50% of final average salary at 20 years, reflecting NY Chapter 692 of 2025 (Senate Bill S4727, signed December 19, 2025); Social Security covered and subject to the age-62 reduction. Tier 6 (modified Tier 3): held at 50% at 22 years (about 2.1% per year to 20 years, then faster to the 50% cap) because Chapter 692’s extension to the post-April 1, 2012 cohort is not yet officially confirmed, and the longer-to-cap reading is the safer one; Social Security covered and subject to the age-62 reduction. For Tier 3 and Tier 6 the figures above are your benefit BEFORE that reduction, which is what you collect until you turn 62. We do not estimate the reduction itself. Under RSSL 505 it is one-half of the primary Social Security benefit, and RSSL 511 defines that term for this purpose: it is calculated from wages in qualifying public employment and your credited service under this retirement system. It is NOT the ordinary Social Security retirement benefit SSA computes from every job you have held, so an SSA statement will not give you the figure that reduces this pension, and no calculation on a final average salary produces either one. An official benefit estimate from the NYC Fire Department Pension Fund is the source. Final average salary rules, overtime caps, and your exact figures come only from the NYC Fire Department Pension Fund. Confirm with your pension section before any decision.
